Tanzania yetu Hakuna Matata

I am back in the US after spending the last couple of weeks volunteering at KiviNet Tanzania, a micro financing organization that supports women and people affected by HIV/AIDS.

KiviNet Tanzania members singing a heartwarming welcome song

Our team of German and American volunteers met with & interviewed approximately 100 KiviNet members, board members, and stakeholders. We concluded the project by conducting a SWOT and gap analysis, and presented KiviNet's 3 year strategy plan supporting their 1200 members.

Volunteering in Tanzania was one of the most fulfilling and equally challenging projects I've ever worked on, one that stretched me in many ways and made me reflect.

I learned that we volunteer with the right intentions of helping people in need, but aways walk away gaining a lot more from those we serve.

I learned that we truly live in excess in the West and take basic necessities for granted like clean water, clean air, clean food, a roof over your head, a warm bed, and adequate healthcare. The things that I complain about in the US such as "a late Uber driver!" or a bad day at work are truly first world problems.

I will never forget the warmth, generosity, and genuine spirit of Tanzanians. They were incredible people who are happy and content, look out for people in their community, and who give so much of themselves despite having so little.

Asante Sana Tanzania for this once in a lifetime experience. I will be back again in Africa, next time with Hubby!
