Thankful for my Asics

In my humble opinion, Buenos Aires might be the best walking city I've ever traveled to. Asia has some gems like Hong Kong, but southeast gets way too hot hot. Sydney is a bit too spreadout like LA. San Francisco is too hilly and has the tenderloin spoiling things. Chicago is fantastic, but a bit too big and way too cold 6 months of the year. Europe is also wonderful, but there is something about BA that just really speaks to me. Maybe it's the old tile which doubles as side walks, or how the city seems to roll from one neighborhood to the next, each completely different with it's own character and attitude. There are plenty of parks too, complete with beautiful european architecture, statues, and stories to tell.

One of my new habits is to get up a little earlier than usual and go for a walk. As I rise and start my day, I'll lace up my shoes and go for a 30-60 minutes walk. On the way, I'll try to go to the fruit stand or get a pastry while I'm on the go. It's a nice way to get the day started, clear my head, and enjoy a little exercise. It's also nice to do here, because the city is quiet during the morning due to it's nightowl nature. In fact, most of the cafes aren't open until after 8am! It's autumn right now so the weather is really quite pleasant. I also do a lot of walking during the day itself as my office is walking distance to our apartment and we like to walk around at night as we go out for dinner nearly every night.

I'm glad I bought a new pair of Asics running shoes right before the trip, they're incredibly comfortable and help me log a few miles per day. I'm also running 2-3 times per week through the lush green parks of Palermo and the neighborhoods (barrios) when I can. The only downside to being on foot is the dog poo. It's not just a little bit, it's literally everywhere. I'll never understand why people just can't seem to pick it up, but I digress. As long as you can span the sidewalks and watch where you step, you won't regret being on foot in this magnificent (and flat) city.
