Beautiful Mendoza, WOW!
Christie and I had a chance to visit Mendoza the weekend of Thursday April 21st to Sunday evening, April 24th.
Mendoza is near the Chilean border and home to much of the world's Malbec. It's a valley, but still about 2,500 feet high, and surrounded by some mini mountains and foothills. In the background though, is where the magic happens. The snow capped Andes loom in the distant and look close enough to touch, but far enough to not affect the weather.
Mendoza is like if Lake Tahoe and Napa Valley had a baby. Look at this picture below. The sun is shining, it's 75 degrees and the grapes are growing in the background. Now look in the distance and notice those gorgeous snow capped mountains, that's the Andes. Amazing!
We were lucky enough to stay in a nice bed and breakfast, which felt like staying in grandmother's house. Mercedes was a 75 year old women who ran the place along with her husband and son. She spoke perfect english and spanish, and she loved to talk! When we arrived, we spent about 45 minutes discussing her favorite places and restaurants of her beloved Mendoza. Mendoza was a special place for us, with memories of delicious food, long lieserly meals, bike rides, horseback riding in the mountains, sunshine, and the most beautiful views. The tree lined streets, nice parks and plazas, and fantastic food is icing on the cake. It's a place that I'll always remember and hope to visit again.
