As founder of my company, one of the most important things I can do with my time is hire. My goal is to hire the best people I can find for our company, so that means getting out there and meeting a lot of great and interesting people.
My last week in Buenos Aires I spent meeting several top people from our competitors, learning more about them, their interests, and selling our vision.
Everyone I met spoke fantastic English so we defaulted to that.
With one exception...
I met a senior software architect named Deybi (male) and he was not quite fluent in English, and I'm not quite fluent in Spanish.
We started speaking in English, but he didn't understand. I switched to Spanish, but my language was way too limited.
We had one last option... draw pictures!!!
I pulled out my notebook and Deybi and I traded off my pen, explaining our thoughts and ideas through pictures. Definitely one of the more interesting interviews I've ever done!
