Geishas, Maikos, and Yukata Clad Women in Kyoto's Gion District
Can you believe that Geishas in Japan still exist?
Geiko are traditional Japanese female entertainers who act as hostesses whose skills include performing various art such as classical music, dance, games and conversation, mainly to entertain male customers.
In Kyoto, Geishas are called "Geikos" or "Maikos."
Brian and I had the rare opportunity to see real Geikos in Kyoto's Gion district roaming the streets. They said that even for traditional Japanese and Kyoto-ites, it's very rare to see real life Geikos.
I captured several of shots of the beautiful Geikos like the paparazzi:
Brian and I also saw hundreds of yukata (summer kimono)-clad women and little girls roaming the streets of Kyoto's Gion district. Funny enough, many of the yukata-clad women were Chinese and Korean tourists.
I'm glad that I snapped photos of their beautiful yukatas:
